Welcome to Strathcona Pilates and Wellness! I am a passionate and motivated Pilates teacher and R.M.T., providing progressive movement modalities or hands-on Massage expertise to enhance the expression of your body’s wellbeing. I teach both clinical and classical Pilates and also Registered Massage Therapy. My passion is to see people moving with ease and joy. My commitment is to support your journey to health. My studio is located in a private residence in the east Comox.

What is Pilates?

Are you wondering “is Pilates is right for me? What is Pilates anyway? What can Pilates do for me that other systems won’t?” Excellent questions! While I have discovered over my years of teaching that it is much easier to describe what Pilates does rather than what Pilates is, here I will attempt to describe a little bit of both.

First of all, I would describe Pilates as a highly adaptable Integrated Movement System and exercise practice that can help you develop strength and ease in your body. At Strathcona Pilates, we use a complement of mat work and apparatus (machines) that are uniquely designed to support and challenge you regardless of your physical ability. Pilates increases flexibility and strength in tandem so they work synergistically to create a healthy, balanced body. It can be a powerful choice for rehabilitation, functional fitness, dynamic stability, optimal mobility, body awareness and also (the best part) Feeling Great.

Pilates is an excellent workout and Lora is a wonderful instructor. She is very knowledgeable and provides excellent instruction and feedback during our sessions together. Her studio space is lovely and provides lots of variety with the different pieces of Pilates equipment. I am definitely stronger and more flexible through my work with her. I highly recommend taking Pilates with Lora!

I’ve been working with Lora for almost a decade, rehabbing multiple herniated discs in my lower back.  Her ability to blend her Pilates training and knowledge of body biomechanics with her Massage Therapy background allows her to develop an individualized, specialized program that will guide anyone in their journey to a stronger, healthier body.  Lora has a calm presence that supports her clients, with just enough “steel” to push you further when she knows you are ready to progress to the next level. I would have had at least one more surgery, and missed out on a lot of day-to-day life over the last ten years, if I wasn’t lucky enough to have found Lora after my first disc surgery.  I know my continued back health is a direct result of the work we’ve done together.
