Lora Postma
Owner/Principal Teacher

Hello! I’m Lora, a certified Pilates teacher and owner of Strathcona Pilates & Wellness Collective. I discovered Pilates in 1998 during a time of deep physical unease, and was immediately and profoundly affected by the changes I felt within my own body and mind.

I had only been practicing as an RMT for 1 year, and getting regular massage, but was already realizing that it was not what I needed to be comfortable and strong in my body. A friend suggested Pilates, something I had never heard of.  Having nothing to lose, I gave it a try. Almost immediately I was connecting to my physical body in new and powerful ways and a light switched on in my mind that I didn’t know was ‘off’. I was so inspired by the changes I felt that since 2004 I have completed 2 comprehensive Pilates certification programs, including an advanced teacher certification from the prestigious Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado.

I continue to expand my knowledge and stay inspired and curious by taking diverse workshops, seeking to develop and enhance my understanding of movement and the human body as expressed through the Pilates Method. I find joy and inspiration in finding the untapped power and hidden potential in “every-body”. Highly trained, empathetic, curious, and adaptable, I am committed to your journey to health.  Whether you are interested in fitness, rehabilitation, or just want to get out there and start moving with more ease and a zest in your step, I believe Pilates can help you improve and maintain your physical and, by association, emotional wellness.

I find this work informs and complements my practice as a Registered Massage Therapist. Combining 22 years of experience with my ongoing educational endeavors, I bring competent, adaptable, and broad-based knowledge to my work. I look forward to working with you!

In my spare time, I love to seek out secret river pools, hike to isolated alpine lakes, putter in the garden, refinish old furniture, read a good book and throw extravagant birthday parties!

Lora Postma was essential to my recovery from a severe knee injury that required repairs to multiple ligaments and the lateral meniscus.  Using an effective union of massage, Pilates, patience, and humour, Lora kept me motivated and engaged during the difficult months post-surgery.  She has the rare ability to focus on acute rehabilitation challenges while simultaneously guiding and maintaining general fitness. Lora has deep knowledge, a curious mind, and a creative approach - a wonderful combination to find in a therapist and coach.
